Zomba Diocese Gets First Greenhouse

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, on Friday September 25 2026, officially received and blessed the first greenhouse from Noble Agricultural Technologies (NAT) who handed over the project at Namitembo Farms in Zomba.

In his remarks, Bishop Chaima reiterated that the Diocesan Strategic Plan emphasizes on a self-supporting Church and so the efforts that are being done in Zomba Diocese in all the farms, including the 78-hectare farm land at Namitembo, are part of the implementation processes. 

The Prelate also called upon the Namitembo inhabitants to utilise the opportunity by taking care and securing the greenhouse as it will be the basis for creating more job opportunities to them, thereby contributing a lot in alleviating rampart poverty around the area.

The Local Ordinary thanked the donors, Living Waters International, for the donation (US$4000) which together with local resources the entire project has spent close to 10 million Malawi Kwacha. It was on this note that he appealed to several donors and partners to support the agricultural efforts in Zomba Diocese as it embarks on large scale commercial farming so as to utilise the idle land at Namitembo Farms. 

Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Claver Chisanga, the Manager for NAT, was grateful to Zomba Diocese in general and the Bishop in particular for entrusting them with that responsibility and pledged to be at the Diocesan disposal at any time of need so as to continue making Malawi a green city. 

Fr. Joseph Mtemera OFC Cap, who represented the Diocesan Projects and Investments Team, was very delighted to see that there is progress in the efforts the Committee is doing and hoped that the donors would be more generous to support more projects so that the Diocese realises her dreams. 

Namitembo Farm has a huge area for farming and the Bishop has been inviting different partners to invest on the land so that as a nation we become, not only green, but also end the hunger, eradicate the poverty and live with good mental health because of the availability of basic things in life and progress greatly in life.
