Women in Zomba Diocese Urged to Remain Rooted in Christ

22 Jul 2026 • 6 views

The Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, Monsignor Bernard Chipole, has encouraged women in the Diocese to remain deeply-rooted in Christ and to continue serving the Church with faith, unity and generosity as they strive to build a self-reliant Church.

Monsignor Chipole made the remarks on Saturday during the opening Mass of Chilundu Day, a fundraising event organised by the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba at Zomba Cathedral.

In his homily, Monsignor Chipole urged the women to strengthen their relationship with Christ, saying that a firm spiritual foundation enables them to become effective witnesses of the Gospel in their families, communities, and the Church. He commended the women for their commitment to supporting the Diocese through various development and pastoral initiatives.

The event, which is being held at the Cathedral grounds, has attracted women from all parishes of the Diocese as well as other invited guests.

Guest of Honour at this year's celebration is Linda Poya, who joined hundreds of participants in supporting the fundraising activities.

The day's programme features a variety of activities, including traditional dances, entertainment, and the sale of food and beverages, with proceeds going towards the women's projects.

According to the organisers, the main objective of Chilundu Day is to raise the remaining funds needed to pay off the balance for a bus recently purchased by the Catholic Women Organisation. The funds will also help finance preparations for the Malawi National Catholic Women's Annual Conference, which will be hosted by the Catholic Diocese of Zomba next year.
